Oz The Great and Powerful debuted to a very strong $24.1 million on Friday, and is on pace for an opening weekend over twice as high as any other 2013 movie to date. Meanwhile, Dead Man Down became the latest violent thriller to bomb at the box office. Oz's opening day is the strongest of the year so far, and is the fourth-highest ever for the month of March. Unfortunately, it is only about 59 percent of Alice in Wonderland's $40.8 million start in March 2010, which is slightly less than many were expecting. Alice opened on Oscar weekend, though, which meant the movie was very front-loaded on opening weekend. That won't be the case with Oz, which should draw big family audiences on Saturday and Sunday. If Oz plays out like last March's John Carter, it will finish the weekend with over $74 million. With its PG rating and strong family appeal, though, it's likely to go much higher than that. For example, if it follows the pace of last year's The Lorax, it will wind up with around $95 million; instead, something between $80 and $85 million is a reasonable expectation. In a very distant second place, Jack the Giant Slayer plummeted 67 percent to an estimated $2.52 million. In comparison, John Carter was down 60 percent at the same point last year. To date, Jack the Giant Slayer has earned $36.3 million, and it's now looking like the movie won't even be able to get to $60 million by the end of its run. Dead Man Down opened in third place with an estimated $1.83 million from 2,188 locations. That's a tad better than last month's Sylvester Stallone bomb Bullet to the Head ($1.74 million), but worse than FilmDistrict action flops Parker ($2.15 million) and Lockout ($2.22 million). The movie will finish the weekend with around $5.5 million, making it the latest 2013 release to completely whiff at the box office. At the start of its fifth weekend, Identity Thief eased 34 percent to an estimated $1.8 million. To date, the Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy comedy has earned $112 million. 21 and Over rounded out the Top Five with an estimated $1.64 million, which is a drop of 51 percent from opening day last weekend. By Matt Goldberg | Collider.com I love comic book writer Warren Ellis. His series Transmetropolitan and Planetary are among my all-time favorite comics. However, I found his Iron Man story arc “Extremis” a tad underwhelming, although it did offer up the interesting idea of Tony Stark needing to be completely one with his armor. As far as the book’s plot, it doesn’t easily translate to a blockbuster feature, but Iron Man 3 writer-director Shane Black recently told SFX Magazine that he found a way to make it work. Black talks about using the book as a starting point rather than a straight adaptation. It sounds like he’s found a way to flesh out bits from “Extremis”, and thoughtfully integrate them into the upcoming movie. Hit the jump for more including a new poster. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, and Ben Kingsley. Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.
I also like that there remains the understanding of what Iron Man represents in the Marvel Movie Universe. We’ve seen the cosmic elements, but the Iron Man movies can stay Earthbound even though The Avengers saw Tony Stark briefly traveling to another dimension.
Casting is coming together when it comes to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but the plot still remains a mystery, leaving most of these casting announcements to come with nothing more than a name attached. The latest member of the cast is Keri Russell who can currently be seen in Dark Skies and with Apes will once again star for director Matt Reeves, who helmed five episodes of "Felicity" and wrote several more for the show that launched Russell's career. Russell joins Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Kodi-Smit McPhee and Gary Oldman who were cast previously in the film which is said to be set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and will focus on a group of human scientists struggling to survive alone in San Francisco, while Caesar (Serkis) attempts to maintain dominance over the newly formed ape kingdom. All else is unknown. The film is targeting a spring shoot for its May 23, 2014 release.

In news that certainly comes as a surprise to no one, ABC has canned Zero Hour after just three episodes. The network will replace it with a string of various reality programming. With premiere ratings barely hitting 6.5 million - and only going down from there - coupled with an uneven premise, poor reviews, and a nonexistent advertising plan, it was doomed to fail. Zero Hour joins 666 Park Avenue in the "genre programming failure" at ABC this season. There are a handful of remaining episodes of Zero Hour that, like 666 Park Avenue, will probably air in the summer. Maybe as a failed-genre block. While we are on the subject of failing genre television, let's talk Cult for a minute. Last week we reported that CW's show-within-a-show Cult was being moved from Tuesday nights to Friday nights. True, Cult's ratings have been dismal (averaging less than one million viewers per episode, which is low even by CW's standards. So yes, there is a good chance that Cult is not long for this world. However, the move to Friday is not meant as a way to let Cult live out its contractual obligation in the least disruptive way; it is a hail mary pass. CW is well known for their schedule pairings. Currently, Monday is the "teen drama" block of 90210 and The Carrie Diaries; Wednesday is the male-skewing action block of Arrow and Supernatural; Thursday is "dark fantasy romance" with The Vampire Diaries and Beauty and the Beast. But Tuesdays have been a problem, pairing the female-oriented Hart of Dixie with the dark, weird Cult. It's tough to build an audience with two such disparate properties. But CW is clearly trying to pair Cult with something that has similar demographics: Nikita. Granted, Nikita isn't a huge ratings grabber (its success stems largely from huge international sales) but it certainly has a more similar fanbase. So don't give up on Cult yet - but don't hold your breath for another season.

He and Maya eventually trick Ammar into divulging that an old acquaintance, who is using the alias Abu Ahmed, is working as a personal courier for bin Laden. Other detainees corroborate this, with some claiming Abu Ahmed delivers messages between bin Laden and a man referred to as Abu Faraj. In mid-2005, Abu Faraj is apprehended by the CIA and local police in Pakistan. Maya interrogates Abu Faraj under torture, but he continues to deny knowing a courier with such a name. Maya interprets this as an attempt by Abu Faraj's to conceal the importance of Abu Ahmed.
